I joined the paper in the spring semester of 2022 as a photographer looking for an opportunity to dabble in photojournalism. I asked my friend and fellow classmate who worked for The Winonan, McKenna, on whether or not she thought I should apply. She was overenthusiastic about my curiosity and I later found out that she was the Editor-in-Chief for the paper!

After months of shooting events and learning the ins and outs to our newspaper, I was falling in love with photography all over again. I felt ready for something bigger. I applied to the Photo Editor position for the following year and got hired immediately. Since then, it’s been a beautiful ride training in new photographers just like me who are eager to find and tell stories.
